Smithereen Farm
Our mission at Smithereen Farm is to try and discern what likes to grow here on this glacially scraped hillside overlooking Cobscook Bay, and then we dry, preserve, ferment and mix it up to create products to ship out to our friends around the world. Meanwhile we run a jolly subsistence homestead to feed our farm team, guests and friends. We love wild harvesting from the seashore, the meadow’s edge, the forest floor. We grow mushrooms and young fruit trees, strawberries, wild blueberries, cane fruit, big gardens, small flock of ducks and turkeys, flint corn, dry beans, garlic, potatoes, amaranth. We hope eventually to have sheep, for now we are planting and planting and mulching and manuring and seaweed-ing… to create as much density, diversity and habitat for pollinators as we can manage.
